Volunteer
Airedale Terrier Rescue of the Virginias is an all-volunteer organization. If you love Airedales and have even a little time to spare, we welcome your help! There are many opportunities to meet different interests, talents, and constraints. Interested? Please contact ATRVA.
How can you help?
Liaise with shelters: Maintain a relationship with your area shelters. Explain the activities of ATRVA and request that you be contacted if they receive an Airedale or are notified of an Airedale in need. Educate shelter staff in correctly identifying Airedales.
Keep watch for Airedale notices: Regularly check newspapers, pet store bulletin boards, and websites, such as, Facebook, IG, Twitter, Craigslist, Petfinder, Google, etc. Few people know that Airedale Rescue is an option.
Groom: If you are experienced in grooming Airedales, help us ready our rescues for adoption.
Transport: Transporting rescues from shelters to foster homes and to adopters
Foster: Shelter a rescued Airedale in in your home to help make their transition to a permanent home easier.
Meet dogs prior to surrender: Visit the owner and dog to begin the surrender process.
Call references and vets: The adoption application requires this information, which helps ATRVA make the best adoption match.
Take your Airedale to meet potential adopters: Some people are attracted to Airedales on the basis of appearance alone but have no experience with Airedales. The adoption process includes a structured home-visit in order to make an appropriate match. It is vital to have knowledge of potential adopters and their home environment. Applicants benefit from contact with an experienced Airedale owner and the chance to interact with your Airedale.
Provide information for adopters in your area: Advice on finding an Airedale-familiar groomer, a boarding kennel, a trainer, or a vet in your area is invaluable.
Train and counsel: Be available to offer supportive suggestions for resolving adjustment issues or behavioral problems.
