Relinquishing your Airedale
ATRVA understands that life circumstances change. Whatever the precipitating reason, we know that making the decision to give up your dog is difficult. Through our careful adoption process, Airedale Rescue is able to locate a safe and loving new home for your Airedale Terrier.
ATRVA wants to keep Airedales out of pounds and shelters and to prevent inadvertent placement in a dangerous, exploitative, or deleterious environments. Unfortunately, because of our limited resources, we are only able to place purebred Airedale Terriers, but can offer guidance in locating other resources for your Airedale mix. Please note that it is contrary to National Airedale Rescue ethics for us to purchase surrendered dogs.
If you have decided to surrender your dog: First, contact the breeder, if known, to ask if he or she wants to take responsibility for care and placement.
To place a dog with ATRVA, you must live in Virginia or West Virginia. If you live in another area of the country or Canada, please go to the National Airedale Rescue website to locate contact information for the Airedale Rescue organization in your region.
If the dog is to come into Airedale Rescue:
ATRVA will not share information regarding the name and location of either the surrendering owner or the adoptive owner, unless permission is given by both parties.
Please contact us for more information.

If the dog is to come into Airedale Rescue:
- ATRVA requires that ownership be legally signed over to ATRVA at the time of transfer.
- Copies of all related records should be given to ATRVA: veterinarian history, AKC registration, etc.
- If possible, the dog should be spayed or neutered prior to placement and brought up-to-date with vaccinations.
- A contribution toward the expenses of finding the dog a new home is very welcome. For example: a month’s supply of food, an Airedale-sized crate, monetary donation, etc.
