Airedale Terrier Rescue of Virginia

Volunteer Opportunities

If you want to help Airedale Terrier Rescue of Virginia, there are many opportunities to meet different interests, talents and time constraints.   Contact ATRVA at:  info@ATRVA.com  for Virginia for more information and an application to be an ATRVA volunteer. ATRVA are dedicated to assisting ATRVA in meeting the goal of helping homeless Airedales find their forever families.

Visiting applicants in your area: It is so important for us to have a first-hand understanding of the people and physical set-up in a home to make the right people-dog match. Applicants, too, welcome this contact.

Calling references and vets: Each application asks for this information. For applicants in your area, you could follow up on these, which again helps us to understand the applicant better.

Grooming: If you groom, you could help get a dog looking his best and ready for adoption. Some foster homes do not groom, and the cost of professional grooming is quite a chunk of the donation.

Information resource for adopters in your area: Especially for first time Airedale parents, advice on a good groomer, boarding kennel, trainer, or vet in your area can be invaluable.

Meeting a dog prior to surrender: When an owner calls to arrange to surrender his dog to us, we cannot always take the dog in at a moment’s notice. However, a visit to the owner and dog can get the initial preparation and paperwork started.

Check a dog at the shelter: Visit a dog we hear to be at a shelter to determine if he is an Airedale.

Post placement visits: These assist us in helping an adoptive family once the dog is settled.

Transporting: Dogs, foster homes and adopters are never in the same place, so transportation of the dog is often needed.

Photocopying: We produce a lot of paperwork. If you have use of a photocopier it would help contain our costs.

Making/crafting a fund-raising project: If you have the skill to make and donate a project, preferably with an Airedale theme, we may be able to turn this into a way to generate funds for rescue.

Watch newspapers for "free to good home" ads: Few people know that Airedale Rescue is an option and is certainly a better alternative for finding the best new home.

Visit your local shelter: Introduce yourself, explain how we help Airedales and ask them to call you if they get or know of an Airedale that needs help.

Distribute Rescue information at area shelters and pet shops: Many good adopters find us this way.

Invite potential adopters to meet your dog: Some people think they want an Airedale just from looking at pictures in a book. Many people want an Airedale because they hear they are good for people with allergies. Before getting a dog, though, they should meet one to test their tolerance.

Foster care: It’s the toughest job you’ll ever love. Might it be for you? Ask for more information on this critical need, if you feel you may be able to provide temporary care for a homeless Airedale.

Training: Offer advice and referrals on basic or advanced obedience training.

Counseling: Assist owners of Airedales with adjustment issues and behavior problems to deal with them.

Can you help a homeless Airedale find a forever home?
